Shaddah: The vowel symbol used for Emphasis
In shape "Shaddah" ( ّ ) is a small portion of the letter س (alphabet named "Seen").
It can be said that the sign of shaddah ( شدّة - ّ ) indicates emphasis on the alphabet which carries it.
It is placed over the alphabet (Like this - بّ ) -which in this example will be denoting the sound of ب twice.
For example the alphabet that carries it will be pronounced twice as we Pronounce 'b' in rubber. It is functionally equivalent to writing the consonant twice in most Latin writings.
Shaddah with a Fatahah or a Dhammah
When a shadda is used on a consonant which also takes a fatḥahah, the fatahah is written above the shaddah.
The same is true in case of a Shaddah along with a Dhammah. The Dhammah is placed above the Shaddah. For example in the word سبُّرة - the alphabet ب carries the shaddah and dhammah and is read as Sab-bu-rah (meaning blackboard)
The following example may help in understanding the concept.
ْرُمَّان = رُ + مْ + مَ + ا + ن
Read as rummān, meaning 'pomegranates'.
The same is true in case of a Shaddah along with a Dhammah. The Dhammah is placed above the Shaddah. For example in the word سبُّرة - the alphabet ب carries the shaddah and dhammah and is read as Sab-bu-rah (meaning blackboard)
When the consonant has a Shaddah along with the kasrah, then the kasrah is written between the consonant and the shaddah,(located under the shaddah), rather than in its normal place (under the consonant).
For example in the word سكِّين - the alphabet ك carries the shaddah and kasrah. The Kasrah is placed below the shaddah and is read as Sikkeen (meaning Knife )
